Faucets

About Faucets

Kitchen, bathroom, laundry and bar faucets make up the heart of this collection. You will find single-handle pull-down kitchen faucets in matte black, brushed nickel and black with gold, 4-inch centreset and 8-inch widespread bathroom faucets from Hurran and others, rough brass and utility-sink laundry faucets, and matte black tub and shower trim kits. Faucet-mount filters and replacement cartridges from Waterdrop and Brita are here, along with repair parts such as Chicago Faucets ceramic quarter-turn cartridges and replacement cartridges for Mountain Plumbing faucets.

Count the holes in the sink or counter before anything else. Single-hole faucets are the most flexible, because many include a deck plate to cover a three-hole sink. For kitchens, check spout height and reach against sink depth and anything above the sink, such as a window ledge or shelf; a tall arc over a shallow basin splashes. Ceramic disc cartridges are the standard for smooth, drip-resistant operation. Pull-down sprayers suit deep single-bowl sinks, while pull-out sprayers suit lower spouts and smaller sinks. For bathroom faucets, check whether a pop-up drain is included and whether your sink has an overflow hole.

Before ordering a replacement cartridge, remove the old one and match it by brand and model number, or by stem length and spline count; similar-looking cartridges rarely interchange. Most faucets connect with 3/8-inch compression supply lines, and the lines supplied are often only 50 to 60 cm long, so measure the distance to your shut-off valves. Faucet-mount filters need a standard threaded aerator and will not attach to a pull-down spray head.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a pull-down and a pull-out kitchen faucet?

A pull-down faucet has a tall, arched spout with a spray head that pulls straight down into the sink, which suits deep basins and rinsing large pots. A pull-out faucet has a lower spout and the head pulls toward you, giving more reach across the counter. Pull-outs fit better under low cabinets or windows.

How do I fix a dripping faucet?

Shut off the supply valves, remove the handle and pull the cartridge or stem. Single-handle and most modern two-handle faucets use cartridges that are replaced as a unit; older compression faucets use rubber washers and seats. Bring the old part along or note the model number so the replacement matches exactly.

Can I put a faucet-mount water filter on any faucet?

Only on faucets with a standard threaded aerator at the end of the spout. They do not fit pull-down or pull-out spray heads, and some designer spouts use hidden or non-standard aerators. If your faucet is not compatible, an under-sink filter with its own small faucet is the usual alternative.

What does ADA compliant mean on a faucet?

It refers to the US Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines, which call for controls that can be operated with one hand without tight grasping or twisting, typically lever handles needing little force. In Canada the comparable accessibility standard is CSA B651. Lever handles are a sensible choice for anyone with limited grip strength.
