Matework's 8-piece drywall set includes the knives you need to tape, mud and finish a wall, plus a mud pan. Every blade is made from 304-grade stainless steel. Stainless won't rust between coats or leave orange streaks in fresh compound, which carbon-steel knives can do if you forget to dry them.

What's in the set

  • Taping knives: 8" and 10"
  • Joint knives: 4" and 6"
  • Putty knives: 1" and 2"
  • Multi-tool with carbide-tipped edge
  • 10" mud pan

How the sizes work together

Start with the 4" or 6" joint knife to bed tape and fill screw holes. Feather the second and third coats wider with the 8" and 10" taping knives, which spread compound into a smooth, wide field that needs less sanding. The 1" and 2" putty knives handle corners, patches and tight spots around boxes and trim. Load your knife from the 10" mud pan instead of a bucket so you can keep the edges of the knife clean.

Build details

The blades are precision-tempered for flex and edge life and passivation-treated to resist corrosion. The handles are CNC-machined with TPR anti-slip grips, and each has a hanging hole for storage and a reinforced hammer-end cap for tapping in a proud screw or nail head. The multi-tool's carbide-tipped edge handles scraping paint, removing old adhesive and light prying.

Good to know: rinse the knives and pan before the compound dries. Dried mud on a blade edge leaves ridges in your next coat.
