Description
xThe Zooz ZEN51 is a tiny Z-Wave Long Range relay from Zooz's 700 Series. It goes behind an existing wall switch or up at the light fixture. You keep the switch you like, and the light gains app, voice and automation control through your Z-Wave hub. At about 1.5" x 1.4" x 0.7", it fits in crowded boxes where a full smart switch won't.
Before you buy, check these
- A neutral wire is required at the relay location
- Runs on 120 V household wiring, indoors only
- Works with mechanical on/off or momentary switches. It is not compatible with dimmers or electronic/smart switches
- A Z-Wave hub is required (sold separately), such as SmartThings, Hubitat, Home Assistant or HomeSeer
Load limits
The relay handles up to 960 W incandescent, 150 W LED, 10 A resistive loads and 1/2 HP fan motors. Its dry-contact output also suits non-lighting uses beyond switching a light.
Features
Z-Wave Long Range reaches up to 1,300 feet with LR enabled, which helps with a detached garage or a far corner of the yard. SmartStart simplifies adding the relay to your hub, and S2 authentication secures the connection. It works with 3-way setups. Smart Bulb mode keeps constant power to smart bulbs, so the wall switch sends commands instead of cutting power, and the bulbs stay online.
Installation
Pigtail leads make connections with wire nuts straightforward. Follow the wiring diagrams that come with the relay. Turn off the breaker first, and if you are not comfortable working in a switch box, have an electrician install it.
