Retique It New & Improved Liquid Wood Coatings – Stainable Primer for Dark Wood (Small)

Retique It Liquid Wood is a stainable primer that puts a layer of real wood onto surfaces that are not wood, or wood you do not want to strip. You paint it on, let it dry, then stain it like ordinary lumber. This is the Dark Wood base in the Small size, in Retique It's new and improved formula.

How it gets a wood look

The coating contains over 60 real wood fibres, so once applied, the surface is wood through and through. That is why stain behaves as it does on real timber: it soaks in and brings out a grain texture instead of sitting on top like paint. The improved formula goes on more smoothly, penetrates deeper and bonds more strongly with a wide range of stains.

Why the Dark Wood base

The base colour shows through the stain. A dark base gives deep stains such as mahogany, walnut and espresso more richness and depth than they would have over a light one. Choose this version when you are going for a classic dark finish on a vintage table, a cabinet or a mantel.

Where to use it

Almost any hard surface indoors: furniture, cabinets, floors, drywall, doors, window frames and mantels.

Steps

Lightly scuff-sand the surface (no stripping or heavy sanding), apply the liquid wood coating, let it dry completely, then stain it as you would bare wood.

Try the full process on a test piece or hidden area first to see how your chosen stain develops over the dark base. The coating is water-based with low VOC and minimal odour, suited to indoor projects, and tools clean up with soap and water.
