Miuputake NonProgrammable Thermostat — Digital Energy-Saving, 1 Heat/1 Cool, Easy DIY Install

The Miuputake NonProgrammable Thermostat is a straightforward digital thermostat for single-stage systems: one stage of heat and one stage of cool. No schedules to program and no app to set up; you choose a temperature on the backlit LCD and it holds it.

Check your system first

Works with:

• Forced air (gas, oil or electric) and electric furnaces
• Hot water, steam or gravity radiant heat
• Heat-only and cool-only systems
• Heat pumps without auxiliary or emergency heat
• Millivolt gas fireplaces (24V) and floor or wall furnaces

Does not work with: heat pumps with auxiliary or emergency heat, dual fuel or hybrid heating, electric baseboard, line voltage, convectors, radiant ceiling heat, mini splits or 12V RV systems.

The electric baseboard exclusion is the one to watch. Baseboard heaters run on line voltage, which a low-voltage thermostat like this cannot switch. If your existing thermostat has thick wires connected with wire nuts, it is line voltage.

Power and wiring

The thermostat runs on 24VAC from the system or on two AAA batteries. Most systems need no C-wire; heat-only and cool-only setups may need one. Large terminal blocks and a universal sub-base make the wiring easy to see and tighten, and Miuputake says installation usually takes under 30 minutes. Label your old wires before disconnecting them.

Settings worth knowing

Adjustable swing sets how far the temperature drifts before the system turns on, which affects how often it cycles. You can also calibrate the display if it reads differently from another thermometer, switch between °C and °F, and enable compressor delay, which keeps the air conditioner or heat pump from restarting too soon after it shuts off.
