Description
xOverview
The Membrane Solutions 5-micron string-wound filter is built as a reliable prefilter for whole-house water systems and RO setups. Its 5-micron rating targets undissolved sediment while preserving essential flow to household fixtures. Designed for compatibility with standard 20" housings, this cartridge measures 20 inches in length and 2.5 inches in diameter, making it a straightforward add-on for ongoing filtration needs.
Key benefits
- Higher dirt-holding capacity thanks to a durable string-wound design, enabling longer service intervals between changes.
- Double flow rate compared with typical sediment filters, helping sustain household water pressure during daily use.
- Longer service life due to improved filtration efficiency and a robust polypropylene construction.
- Universal fit for 20" filter housings, RO prefilters, and a range of commercial filtration applications.
- 100% polypropylene media, non-toxic and tasteless, suitable for everyday drinking water use.
Real-world use and performance
- As the first line of defense in a filtration train, it helps reduce visible sediment before other stages, supporting downstream filters and appliances.
- In homes with variable water quality, this cartridge can contribute to clearer water at taps and showers while potentially extending the life of additional filters.
- Because it is a prefilter, it is well-suited for RO systems and whole-house filtration, offering versatility across setups.
Design, materials, and maintenance
The cartridge features a honeycomb-like dirt-holding structure and a polypropylene center tube to enhance pressure resistance. It is manufactured from 100% polypropylene media, which is non-toxic and tasteless. For best results, replace the filter two to three times per year, depending on your water source quality and system usage. Monitor differential pressure and consider changing the cartridge around 30 psi (2.1 bar) to maintain performance.
What to expect
- Improved protection for plumbing and appliances by reducing sediment ingress.
- Potential improvements in perceived water clarity and taste due to reduced particulates.
- Simple, drop-in replacement that works with existing 20" housings and standard filtration setups.
