Description
xThe KOTTO Solder Fume Extractor puts a carbon-filtered fan and a set of helping hands on one base, so you can hold a board steady and pull solder smoke away from your face at the same time. It suits electronics repair, phone and gadget work, jewelry and small craft or modelling projects that involve flux and adhesives.
The fan runs at 3000 RPM and draws fumes from a range of about 5–6 inches. That short range is typical of bench extractors: they work well when the intake sits close to the joint, just off to the side, rather than across the bench. The air passes through a 0.4 inch thick activated carbon filter that captures fumes from solder, flux and related chemicals. Five replaceable filters come in the box.
The helping hands
Two magnetic, adjustable gooseneck arms with stainless steel alligator clips hold wires, boards and odd-shaped parts where you need them. Being magnetic, they can be repositioned on the base quickly as you move from one task to the next.
In the box
- Fume extractor unit
- Two magnetic gooseneck arms with alligator clips
- Five activated carbon filters
The fan is low-noise, non-slip rubber feet keep the unit planted, and a carry handle makes it easy to move between a bench and a shelf.
Good to know: carbon filters load up over time. When you start smelling flux again during a session, it's time to swap in a fresh one.
